Dr. Murphy understands medical care and addiction and can prescribe suboxone when appropriate. Dr. Murphy is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and Family Practice. Most importantly Dr. Murphy listens to the patient and cares about those things that are important to the patient.

Dr. Murphy was honored at American Board of Addiction Medicine awards luncheon May 2 in New Orleans. The luncheon was in conjunction with the 40th Annual American Society of Addiction Medicine Medical-Scientific Conference. He is among the first group of physicians in America to be recognized as “board certified” in addiction medicine. In addition to teaching medical students as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM in Bradenton).  

  • Dr. Murphy is an experienced physician, practicing for 30 years in Primary Care, Addiction Medicine, ER,   Urgent Care, and Occupational Medicine.
  • 15 Years experience as Medical Director of Substance Abuse facilities.
  • Program Director-Behavior Medicine- Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM in Bradenton).
  • A Recipient as a Fellow in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
  • A Recipient of the Wendall Rollason Award, being recognized as the “model physician” for the healthcare systems in the state of Florida.
  • A recipient of the MERCK Award of Excellence in treating Hypertensive, Hyperlipidemic, and Cardiovascular disorders.
  • Twice past President of Florida Osteopathic  Medical Association District 7.
  • A Vietnam combat infantry vet, receiving a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge.
  • Dr. Murphy was recognized by Governor Bush in a ceremony for initiating and maintaining a medical response team following the devastation caused by Hurricane Charley in Port Charlotte. Dr. Murphy also received a plaque recognizing him as a “Hometown Hero.”
